Timeline

Origins
Roots in the Ruhr region.
The roots of the industrial operations connected with Ruhrstahl extended back to 1865, when the Annener Gussstahlwerk was established in Witten. This steelworks later became one of the principal production facilities associated with Ruhrstahl.
Ruhrstahl AG was formally established in 1930 as part of Vereinigte Stahlwerke AG. The company brought together several important steelmaking, forging, casting and engineering facilities in the Ruhr region — including facilities in Witten, Hattingen, Gelsenkirchen, Oberkassel and Brackwede.
With major industrial sites such as the Henrichshütte in Hattingen and the Annener Gussstahlwerk in Witten, Ruhrstahl became an important German producer of steel, heavy castings, forged components and industrial machinery.
